Les Gorges du Toulourenc

Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The Toulourenc is a river of about thirty kilometres that comes down from the north side of Mont Ventoux and flows between the Vaucluse and the Drôme, in a narrow valley. Its gorges, cut in limestone, offer a water hike appreciated in summer, one of whose starting points is the hamlet of Veaux, near Malaucène; another is at Saint-Léger-du-Ventoux.

You go up the river bed for the most part, walking in the clear, cool water, with pools, small beaches and a few obligatory passages over rocks. The most favourable period runs from June to September, and the walk is not recommended with young children.

After heavy rain, the Toulourenc can turn very quickly into a torrent. Access was in fact temporarily banned by order during storms in August 2026; you should check the weather conditions and access rules before setting off.
