Le Puy Griou
The Puy Griou is a summit of the Cantal mountains, within the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park, peaking at about 1,690 metres. Its pointed profile and sharp silhouette make it one of the most recognisable reliefs of the massif, between the Puy Mary and the Plomb du Cantal.
The most common starting point is the Col de Font de Cère, near the Lioran resort, from where a loop of about 6.7 km takes two hours and nearly 400 metres of climb. Other circuits start from Les Chazes or the Alagnon valley. The GR 400 passes at the foot of the summit.
The approach is moderate, but the last stretch to the summit is very steep and technical, reserved for experienced walkers without vertigo. There is no water point on the route.
