Le jardin d'Orchaise

Loir-et-Cher, Centre-Val de Loire

The Botanical Park of the Prieuré d'Orchaise is a 3-ha park overlooking the Cisse valley, backed against a Romanesque bell tower built as early as 1060 by the monks of Marmoutier. Hubert Treuille, a botany enthusiast and great traveller, gathered more than 2,000 varieties of plants from around the world. The visitor and enthusiast will appreciate the harmonious groupings of peonies, magnolias, dogwood maples, flowering cherries and crab-trees, the lotus and water lily ponds, the countless roses and rare shrubs, selected for their beauty. Blooms, barks, scents, sumptuous autumn foliage renew a marvellous spectacle from month to month. This park received, in 1993, the First Prize of the Société Nationale d'Horticulture de France.
