Château de Beauregard

Loir-et-Cher, Centre-Val de Loire

The château de Beauregard, at Cellettes, near Blois, hides behind the foliage of the Russy forest. Its history goes back to the sixteenth century, to a former hunting lodge of Francis I, then the estate was remodelled by successive owners. It has belonged since 1925 to the du Cheyron du Pavillon family, who pursue the difficult balance between restoration and opening to the public in a home that has remained a family one.

Its centrepiece is the Gallery of Illustrious Figures, which gathers 327 portraits of historical figures; their restoration was completed in 2023. Another, more recent gallery presents portraits of dogs from the world of arts and culture.

The park includes the Portrait Garden, designed by Gilles Clément: it offers a plant-based reading of the reigns evoked in the gallery, with 400 species of perennials and shrubs spread over twelve beds, each associated with a colour. The château is in the Loir-et-Cher, within the circle of Loire châteaux.
