Le Cormenier
Le Cormenier, at Champniers in the Vienne, takes visitors back a century. It traces the life of a rural family at the end of the 19th century through that of Pierre Bernardeau, from his birth in 1898 to the purchase of his first tractor in 1918.
Paillou the scarecrow guides visitors through the seasons, explaining the customs of peasant life in the past. Sets, smells, special effects and lifelike figures recreate the atmosphere. The themed route, a pioneer in France, has eight rooms and sixteen scenes, for a visit of about fifty minutes. A hall of farm machinery, whose workings are explained on video screens, completes the visit.
