Lac du Vallon en Isère
The Lac du Vallon is a high lake in the Écrins massif, at about 2,500 metres, at the head of the Malsanne valley, in the commune of Chantelouve, in the Isère, near the Valbonnais. It is the source of the Malsanne torrent, which flows down the valley.
It is above all a demanding hiking goal. The Écrins National Park describes a round trip of about fifteen kilometres with more than 1,300 metres of ascent, starting from the hamlet of Les Bosses. The path crosses the Malsanne on a wooden footbridge, climbs a forest track, then crosses a valley of boulders and pastures before reaching the lake, passing a waterfall fed by the lake and a shepherd's hut.
The route is for experienced walkers only; a storm at altitude can make the descent dangerous. The site borders the core zone of the Écrins National Park.
