Lac de Paladru

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Lac de Paladru is one of the great natural lakes of the Dauphiné, in the north of the Isère, between Grenoble and Lyon. It borders the communes of Charavines, Paladru and Bilieu, now partly grouped in the commune of Villages du Lac de Paladru. Its shores offer beaches, walking paths and water sports.

The lake is also a leading archaeological site. From 1971, underwater excavations uncovered two exceptional settlements: the Neolithic village of Les Baigneurs and the medieval fortified settlement of Colletière, dated to around the year 1000. Changes in the lake's level preserved wooden and organic objects that usually disappear.

A selection of about five hundred objects is presented in the archaeological museum of Lac de Paladru, at Charavines, opened on 7 June 2022.
