La Forêt de Bercé

Sarthe, Pays de la Loire

The Bercé forest lies 11 km north of Château-du-Loir on a plateau at 150 metres' altitude. It extends over 5,415 ha and its 280 km of waymarked circuits offer numerous possibilities for cycling. From 6 to 41 km long, these waymarked routes were designed to suit beginners as well as experienced riders.

This forest is mainly made up of oaks, beeches, and conifers in the poorer south-west and north-west zones. The particularity of the Bercé forest lies in the longevity of some trees: in the Futaie des Clos the oaks have been kept and now show about 350 years (felling usually takes place at 250 years).
