La cathédrale de Bayeux
Bayeux's Notre-Dame cathedral, dedicated in 1077 in the presence of William, was one of the most important Romanesque monuments. Little remains of the original building: the fire of 1105, during the siege of the town, left only its base, the western towers and the crypt.
Rebuilt in the Gothic style in the twelfth century, the cathedral underwent further changes over the following centuries.
Bayeux Cathedral is a Catholic building of essentially Romanesque and Norman Gothic style, seat of the diocese of Bayeux and Lisieux. It is listed as a historic monument and is part of a remarkably preserved episcopal ensemble.
