Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux

Calvados, Normandie

The Bayeux Tapestry (Calvados) is a 70-metre-long embroidery made in the eleventh century. It is inscribed in UNESCO's "Memory of the World" register. Celebrating the conquest of England by William, duke of Normandy, this linen cloth was embroidered after the battle of Hastings, on 14 October 1066, probably in a monastery in the south of England.

Viking ships and Norman and Saxon cavalry contribute to the exploits of William and his adversary Harold, another claimant to the English throne.
