La Cascade des Ecouges
The Écouges waterfall is in the Vercors massif, in the Isère, in the commune of Saint-Gervais, near Rencurel. The Écouges stream plunges about sixty metres into a deep canyon, in the heart of a renowned forest.
The Écouges road, opened in 1883, climbs from Saint-Gervais towards Rencurel and the Col de Romeyère. It becomes a narrow corniche road hanging over the void as it nears the canyon, giving a glimpse of the waterfall from the road. Access to the foot of the falls is difficult.
The Écouges canyon, graded very difficult by canyoning enthusiasts, and the surrounding forest form a sensitive natural area of the Isère département, where guided nature outings are regularly organised.
