la cascade de Sillans
The Sillans waterfall is in the commune of Sillans-la-Cascade, in the Var, about ten kilometres from Aups and not far from the Verdon regional nature park. With a drop of over forty metres, it is the village's main attraction and one of the highest waterfalls in the département. It is fed by the Bresque, a tributary of the Argens that rises nearby, swollen by the waters of the Bresc castle spring and the Ourc valley.
The water plunges into a turquoise-tinted basin, surrounded by greenery. The site is reached by a walk of about 800 metres, lined with tall plane trees. The path is made of tufa, a limestone rock of plant origin. Swimming in the basin has been forbidden since 2005 and access is protected by a fence. Since 2014, a belvedere built by the Var département, owner of the site, offers an overall view of the fall.
