La Cascade de Cubserviès

Aude, Occitanie

The Cubserviès waterfall is in the Montagne Noire, in the commune of Roquefère, in the north of the Aude. It is the highest in the département: the first visible drop is about forty-five metres, and the two successive steps are said to total ninety, though only the first can be seen.

It is fed by the Rieutort stream. It can be admired from the promontory of the hamlet of Cubserviès, at about 744 metres, which offers a panorama over the valley.

The site is classified as a sensitive natural area, with a path along the stream and dry-stone terraces. The classic hike starts from the car park before the village of Roquefère and passes through Cubserviès: it is a long, demanding route. Carcassonne is about twenty kilometres away by road.
