Kaysersberg
Kaysersberg nestles in the heart of the Alsace vineyard, on the wine route, in the Haut-Rhin. Since 2016, the commune has borne the name Kaysersberg Vignoble and brings together Kaysersberg, Kientzheim and Sigolsheim.
The historic centre keeps cobbled lanes lined with half-timbered houses, some of which date from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, such as the Faller house or the Loewert house and its flowered oriel. A fortified pink sandstone bridge spans the Weiss and links the two halves of the town.
Above the town, the ruins of the imperial castle of the Schlossberg, built in the thirteenth century, recall the name of the place, the "Emperor's mountain". Only the keep and part of the enclosure remain.
Kaysersberg is the birthplace of Albert Schweitzer, physician, theologian and Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1952. The Schweitzer centre, set in his birth house, is devoted to his work. The town also hosts a renowned Christmas market.
