Bergheim

Haut-Rhin, Grand Est

Bergheim is a village of the Alsace vineyard, in the Haut-Rhin, between Sélestat and Ribeauvillé, at the foot of the Vosges. It is ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. It has kept a large part of its medieval enclosure, with ramparts and towers, which surround a centre of half-timbered Alsatian houses and fine winegrowers' dwellings.

Bergheim is famous for its old justice lime tree, a venerable tree planted at the town entrance, and for the wines of its vineyard, such as the grand cru Altenberg. A walk along the ramparts, then through the lanes, lets you discover the village in an hour or two, before continuing on the Alsace wine route.
