Guédelon
Guédelon is a construction site for a fortress built with the techniques and materials of the thirteenth century. It is at Treigny, in the Yonne, in the heart of the Puisaye forest, in a natural site where stone, wood and earth are extracted on the spot.
On the site, workers and craftsmen (stonemasons, carpenters, blacksmiths, tilers, ropemakers) work reproducing medieval gestures. The four towers have reached their final height and the curtain walls are almost complete; efforts now go into the interior fittings, with notably the making of a great panelled vault. In 2026, the portcullis mechanism room is presented for the first time.
The site welcomes about 300,000 visitors a year. The end of the building work is estimated, according to sources, between 2029 and 2035.
