Château du Chastenay
The Château du Chastenay is in the hamlet of Val-Sainte-Marie, in the commune of Arcy-sur-Cure, in the Yonne, about 800 metres from the Arcy caves, on a cliff overlooking the Cure. Built in 1349 within an older fortified enclosure, it has parts from the 13th, 14th and 18th centuries.
Its elegant façade has a turret and a hexagonal stair tower. Some of the motifs of its rich carved decoration evoke alchemical and craft-guild symbolism.
Almost in ruins in 1966, it has been restored since 1972 with the Historic Monuments service. Information on visits varies between sources, so it is best to check with the owner before going.
