Château de Tanlay

Yonne, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Château de Tanlay, in the Yonne, is one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Burgundy. Tanlay, a commune of fewer than 900 inhabitants, is famous for it. The home of Admiral de Coligny's family during the Wars of Religion, it was completed by Michel Particelli d'Hémery, Mazarin's superintendent of finances.

At the end of the 17th century it passed to a family that has kept it ever since. Its long canal, moats and symmetry make it an example of French classical art. The visit covers the gallery, the salons and the park, near Tonnerre and Chablis, on the Burgundy wine route.
