Château d'Ancy-le-Franc

Yonne, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Château d'Ancy-le-Franc, in the Yonne, near Tonnerre, is a Renaissance château built in the mid-16th century for Antoine de Clermont. Its design is generally attributed to the Italian architect Sebastiano Serlio; work began around 1542-1546 and continued after his death in 1554, under Pierre Lescot according to some sources.

This vast quadrilateral contains rich interior decoration created in the 16th and 17th centuries by Italian, Flemish and Burgundian artists, with the involvement of Primaticcio, who came from Fontainebleau. The château is a listed historic monument.

The tour covers more than twenty rooms and the upper floor and lasts about an hour and a half. The château is surrounded by a park and gardens of about fifty hectares and borders the Burgundy Canal.
