Grotte du Sdragonato

Corse-du-Sud, Corse

The Sdragonato cave, or Dragon's cave, is a sea cave carved into the cliffs of Bonifacio, in Corse-du-Sud. It used to be entered by boat, through a narrow, low passage that was only passable in calm seas. Inside, a single large hall opens onto a vault pierced by a hole whose outline evokes the map of Corsica.

The daylight passing through this opening plays on the walls and on the water, and the rocks at the bottom, in turquoise tints, are sometimes called "Oriental carpets". The depth of the water varies from one to seven metres. This site has long been among the boat excursions leaving from the port of Bonifacio. The commune states, however, that the cave is no longer accessible to the public: it is better to find out before planning a visit.
