Domme
Domme is an old bastide of the Black Périgord, founded in 1281 by King Philip III the Bold. Ringed by ramparts, it is ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Perched on a rock overlooking the Dordogne valley, it was the chief town of the canton of Domme from 1790 to 2015.
The village keeps traces of its tumultuous past: fortified gates, towers that served as prisons, the minter's house, the consuls' house, the old market hall and the governor's mansion. Its golden stones, caves with concretions and gardens hanging above the valley make the charm of the visit. The view over the Dordogne and La Roque-Gageac is one of the great assets of the visit.
