Cirque de Bonifatu

Haute-Corse, Corse

The Bonifatu cirque is a majestic mountain amphitheatre in the heart of the Bonifatu forest, in the commune of Calenzana, in the Balagne, in the Haute-Corse. This forest of more than 3,000 hectares, about twenty kilometres from Calvi, is dominated by granite and rhyolite ridges, with laricio pines, holm oaks and torrents flowing down to the Figarella.

The site is popular with hikers, who find paths to waterfalls, refuges and ridges, and it is one of the starting points of the GR20 by a variant route. Visitors can also simply walk along the stream in the shade of the trees or picnic in the cirque. In summer it is best to arrive early, as the road is narrow and parking limited.
