Château Saint-Sixte
The Château Saint-Sixte, at Freistroff in the Moselle, stands on the banks of the Nied, in a calm, pastoral landscape. A witness to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, it hosts many events.
Few traces remain of the original castle, built in the 12th century by the lord Wirich de Valcourt and turned into a country residence in the 16th century. The present oval building of pink sandstone was built between 1536 and 1546.
It has six wings roofed with scalloped tiles and slate, which completely enclose a rectangular courtyard. It is entered through a covered porch, added in the 18th century next to the old drawbridge.
