Château Lafayette
The Château de Chavaniac-Lafayette, in the Haute-Loire, is the birthplace of the 'hero of two worlds', Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, a major figure in the American War of Independence. It stands in the commune of Chavaniac-Lafayette, in the mountains of Auvergne.
A museum trail guided by texts, lighting and music introduces La Fayette and his times. La Fayette was made an honorary citizen of the United States, a title received by only four historical figures before him. The visit reveals his Auvergne roots and the life of this hero of the American and French Revolutions.
