Château de Polignac
The fortress, since the tenth century, was the cradle of the greatest family of the Velay, the Polignac family, one of the most illustrious in French history. It could house 800 soldiers. With its unique defence system and strategic position, the fortress played a major role. The Polignac family, overlords in the region, built ramparts along the cliffs (thirteenth century). Today only the ruins and a magnificent square keep, restored in the nineteenth century, remain.
