Abbatiale Saint-Robert de La Chaise-Dieu
The abbey church of Saint-Robert, at La Chaise-Dieu in the Haute-Loire, is a 14th-century Gothic building listed as a historic monument. It has remarkable tapestries, wall paintings, an altarpiece, an organ case, a chapel, paving and capitals.
Guided tours are frequent in summer, and groups are welcome by reservation the rest of the year. The 16th-century 'Salle de l'Écho', traditionally the old confessional of the Benedictine monks, is also worth a visit for its unusual acoustics.
