Château du Wasenbourg
The castle of Wasenbourg is a 13th-century ruin in the Bas-Rhin, in the heart of the Northern Vosges. It stands at 432 metres on the Reisberg hill above Niederbronn-les-Bains, the commune it belongs to. It can be seen from the departmental road between Haguenau and Bitche, on leaving the village, and has been listed as a historic monument since 1898.
This fine pink sandstone medieval castle, in the middle of the forest, overlooks the Falkensteinerbach valley. Its ruins still show a fine frieze on the ground floor and a Gothic window on the first floor. It is reached by a path from Niederbronn-les-Bains, an easy forest walk with good viewpoints.
