Château de La Petite-Pierre

Bas-Rhin, Grand Est

The castle of La Petite-Pierre, in the Bas-Rhin, was built in the 12th century and largely modernised, with its fortifications, by Vauban in 1684. It was then a strategic point controlling a pass between Alsace and Lorraine. The commune, Lìtzelstän in Alsatian, is part of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park.

Today the park's visitor centre is housed here, with a museum on the history and nature of the area. The fortified village above the forest is explored on foot, with its ramparts, viewpoints and lanes.
