Château du Rocher
The Château du Rocher, at Mézangers in the Mayenne, was built mainly in the second half of the 15th century on a site already occupied in the 13th century. It was profoundly transformed: a Renaissance façade was added to its west wing between 1510 and 1535, and an 18th-century building was added at the east end in 1728.
The Renaissance gallery on the courtyard, with five depressed arches and an exuberant composition, is its most remarkable feature, together with the 15th-century façades. The château is reflected in a pond in the middle of an English-style park and is listed as a historic monument. The park and exterior can be visited freely in the fine season. The château is on the road from Évron to Mayenne.
