Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre
The castle of Haut-Ribeaupierre, or Hohrappoltstein, is one of the three castles overlooking the town of Ribeauvillé, in the Haut-Rhin, with Girsberg and Saint-Ulrich. At 642 metres above sea level, it towers over the other two. First mentioned in 1084, it is the oldest of the three.
The remains, listed as historic monuments, include an imposing round keep that has withstood time well. The building is being restored and offers a very fine view over the Alsace plain and the crests of the Vosges. It is reached on foot from Ribeauvillé by a forest path, making it possible to link the three castles in a single hike.
