Château des Guilhem

Hérault, Occitanie

Built by the lords of Clermont-l'Hérault, the Guilhem family, from whom it takes its name, the Château des Guilhem dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. Standing on the Puech Castel hill, it dominates the town and played a protective and defensive role in the Middle Ages.

The castle is now a ruined fortress whose remains stand in the commune of Clermont-l'Hérault, in the Hérault. In a fairly poor state of preservation, it underwent restoration work at the end of the 20th century and consolidation work in 2004 and 2007, and its remains are protected as historic monuments.
