Château des Allymes
Built at the beginning of the 14th century on the first foothills of the Bugey mountains by the Dauphin of Vienne, during the war against the Count of Savoy (1272-1355), the Château des Allymes has kept the purity of its military architecture, designed for the defence of the territory in the Middle Ages.
The castle has two parts: the upper courtyard, formed by four curtain walls linking the square tower (the keep) to the round tower (the watchtower), and the lower courtyard, of which the great fortification wall and a small ruined watchtower remain. Listed as a historic monument in 1960, the Château des Allymes was saved from ruin and has been open to the public since 1966.
