Château de Montribloud
The Château de Montribloud, at Saint-André-de-Corcy in the Ain, was originally a medieval keep. It stood, as it still does, on top of a poype, an earth mound, and was surrounded by ditches. On the edge of the Dombes plateau, it held a strategic position on the borders of the Franc-Lyonnais and the Principality of Dombes, a few leagues from the Saône and the Kingdom of France.
In the mid-18th century the Nicolau family, treasurers of the city of Lyon for 35 years, completely transformed the old fortress and gave it, give or take a few details, its present appearance. They called on the architect Morand, who designed among other things the new Brotteaux district in Lyon.
