Fort l'Ecluse
Fort l'Écluse is in the Ain, in the Pays de Gex, just outside the village of Longeray in the commune of Léaz, between the Swiss border and the Haute-Savoie.
The fort was the very last stronghold of the 1940 campaign. It was cited on the BBC's Radio Londres, in the programme 'Les Français parlent aux Français', for its resistance. The determination of its garrison against the Germans helped the Haute-Savoie to remain free until 1942.
