Château de Vixouze

Cantal, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The château de Vixouze, on the inventory of Historic Monuments, is between Aurillac and Vic-sur-Cère. It stands on a height, above the Cère valley, at 780 metres' altitude, facing the château de Pesteil and overlooking the village of Polminhac. In the heart of the estate, of about three hectares, the castle emerges with its medieval courtyard and the Pavillon au Roy, forming a prestigious and natural architectural ensemble that lends itself readily to the setting of your most varied events.

Originally there was a defensive and observation keep over the Cère Valley which, after partial destruction in the Middle Ages, was rebuilt and, under the reign of Saint Louis, the château de Vixouze formed, with Pesteil and Foulholes (now vanished), the only fortresses of the Cère Valley. The castle was then remodelled in the fifteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
