Château de Messilhac
In the late 16th century the Château de Messilhac, in the Cantal, was the seat of the bailiff of Haute-Auvergne, Captain Capt de Rastinhac, the king's lieutenant general in the region. It played an important part in local history, notably during the Hundred Years' War, when it was occupied by English troops, and during the Wars of Religion.
Made up of two large keeps, a central block and a late 18th-century wing, Messilhac offers a superb panorama over the Goul valley from its terrace and the tops of its watchtowers.
