Château de Viverols
The Château de Viverols stands in the commune of Viverols, in the Livradois, at the foot of the road up to the Col de Chemintrand, in the Puy-de-Dôme. Guillaume III de Baffie, lord of the area, made it a fortress in the 13th century; the Forez wars against the Count of Forez, Guy IV, marked its history.
The heritage inventory describes a roughly pentagonal enclosure with four towers and an entrance pavilion. Two towers pierced with arrow slits seem to date from the 13th century, with their curtain walls and the lower part of the west residence; this residence was altered in the 16th century, and the entrance building dates from the early 17th century. The castle has been listed as a historic monument since 1926.
A private property, it has been opened to visitors by its owners since 2019, mainly in summer, but no recent information on opening times could be confirmed.
