Château d'Aulteribe
The Château d'Aulteribe is a fortified castle in the Puy-de-Dôme, in the commune of Sermentizon, on the first foothills of the Livradois mountains. In Roman times, the Via Agrippa, from Lyon to Saintes via Clermont-Ferrand and Limoges, passed nearby. Built at the end of the Middle Ages, it was remodelled and restored in the second half of the 19th century.
In 1954 the Marquis Henri de Pierre bequeathed the château and its collections to the national historic monuments fund. Furniture, Flemish and Aubusson tapestries, 17th- and 19th-century paintings and Chinese porcelain form a decorative ensemble of great quality. The château belongs to the State and is run by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
