Château de Busséol
The Château de Busséol, in the Puy-de-Dôme, was built in the 13th century by William VIII of Auvergne. It is one of the few Romanesque fortresses to remain almost intact. It stands on a volcanic peak at 650 metres, overlooking the village and the Limagne plain, with wide views over the surroundings.
The château has kept a garden courtyard and interior decoration evoking the Middle Ages, notably a large Romanesque fireplace. It belonged to several important figures, including Catherine de' Medici. The visit reveals a fortress little altered over the centuries, in the Auvergne countryside near Clermont-Ferrand.
