Château de Tours

Indre-et-Loire, Centre-Val de Loire

The Château de Tours, near the Loire in the historic quarter of the city, bears the marks of a rich royal past. It was here, in 1413, that the marriage of Marie d'Anjou and the future Charles VII was celebrated. The château also received a victorious Joan of Arc on her return from Orléans.

Today the building is used as an exhibition venue: it has shown photography and visual arts exhibitions, notably in partnership with the Jeu de Paume, as well as contemporary art. Visitors come as much for the works as for the building.

Practical information and the current programme should be checked with the city of Tours or the tourist office.
