Château de Prauthoy
The Château de Prauthoy, in the Haute-Marne, consists of buildings of different periods: two 17th-century wings frame the main façade, built in 1721 and raised by a storey at the end of the 19th century. The park, the outbuildings with their turret and the artificial grotto were laid out in the mid-19th century.
Below ground, reached from the grotto, the 16th-century cellar is now a tasting cellar. The estate was once very large: in the 17th century it extended over several surrounding villages and supplied produce to other residences as far as Paris, and at the time of the Revolution its cellars held up to 117 casks of wine. Today the estate is reduced to the park, of just over 5 hectares, and offers stays in a romantic setting.
