Château d'Arc-en-Barrois

Haute-Marne, Grand Est

The Château d'Arc-en-Barrois, in the Haute-Marne, was built in 1845 by the Princess of Orléans for her brother, King Louis-Philippe. It is now part of a private estate. In 1873 his son, the Prince de Joinville, added an ice house of original design, and in 1858 he also turned the old forge into a sawmill, fitted with a steam engine.

Arc-en-Barrois is a commune in the Haute-Marne, 24 km south of Chaumont and 30 km north-west of Langres, a green holiday resort and flower-decked village. The château is mainly seen from outside, on a walk through the village and the forest park surrounding the town.
