Château de Morlanne
The château de Morlanne is a former fortified castle built in the fourteenth century by the architect Sicard de Lordat, at the request of Gaston Fébus, as part of the Béarn defence system. It stands in the commune of Morlanne, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and is partly listed as a historic monument.
Built in 1373 by Gaston Fébus's half-brother, this brick fortress has been exemplarily restored: Raymond Ritter, a scholar passionate about history, literature and art, and his wife Hélène recreated the original architecture. The castle seems to have come through the centuries intact. It is visited on guided tours, in the setting of the Béarn countryside.
