Château de Bellocq

Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Château de Bellocq is in the commune of the same name, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. In ruins, it has been listed as a historic monument since 1997. It stands within a traditional 13th-century bastide. Remodelled by Gaston Fébus, lord of the Pyrenees and a key figure in the history of the south-west, it is arranged around an entrance gate formed by a square tower and four round towers.

The ruins overlook the village and show how a lowland castle of the Béarn was organised. They are easy to reach, and the visit combines well with the village and the other castles of Gaston Fébus, such as Morlanne and Orthez.
