Château de Marracq
The Château de Marracq is in Bayonne, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques; only ruins remain today, north of the Collège Marracq. It was built in the early 18th century by Maria Anna of Neuburg, the exiled Queen of Spain, but was never really lived in.
Napoleon I stayed here and made it one of his imperial palaces. It was here, in 1808, that the Spanish Bourbons abdicated in favour of Napoleon, who placed his brother Joseph Bonaparte on the throne. It is now a listed monument owned by the town of Bayonne.
