Château de Montaigut

The castle of Montaigut, in the Aveyron, was built in the 10th century on a rocky spur with an incomparable view over the Rougier de Camarès.

It has fine vaulted rooms served by a spiral staircase, a cellar, early medieval burials, a cistern cut into the rock, guardrooms and rooms of all sizes designed down to the smallest detail for defence or living, making it a place of constant discovery. Restored over the last 30 years by an association, it has become a permanent cultural centre.
