The neo-Renaissance Château de Méridon, at Chevreuse in the Yvelines, is a hunting lodge built for Monsieur Marquez di Braga, director of the Crédit foncier, the French mortgage bank.
It stands on the terrace of a former medieval castle, in the wooded landscape of the upper Chevreuse valley. The château is private and not open to visitors.
The château de Breteuil was built around 1600 on the site of a fortress of which only the dovecote still remains today.
The Château de la Madeleine, on the heights of Chevreuse, offers a superb panorama of the Yvette valley.
The Coubertin estate was bought in 1577 by Jean Frédy, a Paris merchant, who built the château; the interior was fitted out in the 18th century.
The building of the first château of Dampierre (1180–1351) is attributed to the architect Jean Duval.
This registered historic monument was built in 1589 by Louis Habert de Montmort, whose descendants lived here until 1720.
The present Louis XIII-style château, built in 1847-1849, was a major hunting centre as the favourite home of the famous Duchess of Uzès.
