Château de Dampierre
The building of the first château of Dampierre (1180–1351) is attributed to the architect Jean Duval. It was embellished by Charles de Lorraine, Cardinal Archbishop of Reims. Several sovereigns lived in the château, in particular Kings Louis XIV and Louis XV and the Queens of France Anne of Austria and Marie Leszczyńska (whose personal apartment is still preserved). In 1995, the château's interior staircase was used as a set for Patrice Leconte's film Ridicule.
Built in the last quarter of the seventeenth century by Jules Hardouin-Mansart for the Duke of Chevreuse, the château of Dampierre is a classical château in the heart of the Chevreuse valley, at Dampierre-en-Yvelines.
