Château de Largoet

Morbihan, Bretagne

The Château de Largoët, at Elven in the Morbihan, is one of the most prestigious examples of 14th- and 15th-century military architecture in Brittany.

A little off the road from Vannes to Ploërmel, it stands in a valley surrounded by a vast forest, where the Kerbiler stream feeds the moats and the pond. Its substantial remains owe their good state of preservation to this setting and to the difficulty of access, but above all to the end of their military role after Brittany's union with France.

Its keep, more than 44 metres high, is one of the tallest in France.
