Château de Chassy

Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Château de Chassy is in the commune of Chassy, in the Saône-et-Loire, on the east side of the village, on the slope of a small valley where the Clessy stream rises. Its present appearance dates mostly from the 15th century. It was built on an earlier fortified house bearing the date 1056.

Above a sturdy main building rise two round towers, a square tower and a hexagonal tower. Nearby are a former outbuilding and a massive round dovecote. The château is private property and is not open to visitors. It has been on the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since March 1927.
